The Titanic: The New Movie is a live-action film about the RMS Titanic and its 1912 sinking. The film is directed by James Cameron and stars Kate Winslet, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Billy Zane. It tells the story of legendary heiress Molly Brown (Kate Winslet), who saves nearly 2000 passengers despite her boyfriend, Jack Dawson (Leonardo Dicaprio), being among them. The film begins on April 11, 1996, with Jack Dawson and his best friend Fabrizio De Rossi taking a tour of the ship on which they will be travelling to America. They meet Molly Brown, and Jack impresses her by doing a handstand on the railing of the ship. They decide to share a first class cabin together on the voyage. On board, they meet Rose DeWitt Bukater and her fiancé Cal Hockley. Rose is upset that her mother has decided to travel in first class as well as she is uncomfortable around upper class people such as Molly Brown, who she sees as uncivilised and rude. The next day, Jack goes to the ship's bridge to meet his secret lover, Rose. Cal, who is also on the bridge notices their meeting and encourages her to marry him instead. Rose breaks up with Jack, leaving him heartbroken. As the ship leaves Southampton for New York City , an iceberg is spotted by lookout Frederick Fleet, but First Officer William Murdoch ignores it, despite Chief Officer Henry Wilde warning him that if they hit it could cost them up to $20 million in damage. It is not until Quartermaster Robert Hichens spots the iceberg that Murdoch orders the engines stopped. The Titanic collides with the iceberg and begins sinking very quickly after water floods into several of its compartments. Jack and Fabrizio manage to free Molly from her room and then they escape on a lifeboat. They find Rose, who had been trapped above with Cal, and convince her to join them on the lifeboat. Eventually, a series of explosions rupture the ship's hull and water floods into its lower levels. Jack is dragged under but is saved by Rose as the ship sinks abruptly. Jack and Fabrizio swim through the sinking wreck to reach a nearby collapsible boat, but as they climb aboard Titanic begins its final roll over onto its starboard side, causing it to flood even more dramatically than before and submerging most of those still clinging to it.
